Case Study - ACL Reconstruction
BW, a 34 year old Television Producer had sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury in 2014 following a sports incident.
After a further ACL rupture and reconstruction in 2017, he was referred to AquaPhysio for a rehabilitation programme to safely strengthen his legs, with emphasis on the hamstrings and quadriceps to better support the stability of his knee.
Treatment in the pool initially comprised of graduated weight bearing and gait re-education which has allowed him to progress steadily. With the aid of hydrotherapy, particularly water resistance and buoyancy, BW has been able to offload pressure from his knee and safely strengthen his core and lower body as a result. He has recently progressed to a self-help programme which allows more complex movements to be achieved over time.
