The Benefits

Why Choose Hydrotherapy?

Recovering from joint surgery, fractures, or back pain can be a long and frustrating process. Traditional rehabilitation often starts with passive movements, delaying your return to full strength. Hydrotherapy offers a different path. By beginning your rehab in the water, we harness the natural properties of buoyancy, hydrostatic pressure, and resistance to accelerate your recovery. You’ll regain mobility, strength, and confidence faster while reducing pain and stress on your body.

The Benefits of Water-Based Rehabilitation

  • Faster Recovery: The support of water allows for early movement without putting stress on healing joints, fractures, or soft tissues.
  • Reduced Pain & Swelling: Hydrostatic pressure reduces inflammation, decreases swelling, and provides natural pain relief.
  • Improved Mobility & Strength: Water resistance activates muscles gently yet effectively, helping to restore movement and rebuild strength without the limitations of gravity.
  • Enhanced Confidence & Mental Well-being:  Water-based therapy allows you to move freely and painlessly, giving you the confidence to return to normal activities quicker.
  • Suitable for All Conditions: Whether recovering from surgery, a fracture, chronic back pain, or mobility issues, aquatic physiotherapy is the ideal starting point.

Specialist Services for Knee Replacement & Achilles Tendon Rupture Recovery

  • Total Knee Replacement Recovery: We provide a specialised service designed to help you achieve the best possible function from your surgery. Research and experience show that what you do in the first four months after a knee replacement sets the path for your long-term outcome. Our structured aquatic rehabilitation ensures optimal mobility, strength, and confidence from the early stages, maximising your recovery potential.
  • Achilles Tendon Rupture Program: We offer a dedicated package for patients recovering from Achilles tendon rupture, starting from 4-5 weeks post-injury, depending on your management pathway. This includes a critical session specifically designed to transition you from wearing a boot to comfortably moving in a shoe, helping you regain normal function safely and efficiently.

Your Recovery Pathway

Comprehensive Initial Assessment (60 minutes)

Your first session begins with a detailed assessment by our specialist therapist. We evaluate your condition, discuss your goals, and assess your mobility on land before transitioning into the pool. Once in the water, you’ll experience immediate relief and guided movement therapy designed to suit your individual needs.

Tailored One-to-One Therapy Sessions (30 minutes each)

Following your assessment, you’ll enter a series of personalised 1:1 therapy sessions in the pool. Your therapist will continually monitor your progress, adapting exercises to ensure you are maximising your recovery. If any discomfort arises, we adjust your program immediately to keep you moving forward safely and effectively.

Self-Managed Sessions for Continued Progress

Once you’ve made significant progress, we offer the opportunity to transition into independent pool sessions. With a personalised exercise plan created by your therapist, you’ll continue strengthening and maintaining your recovery at your own pace. Whether in our pool or at a local facility, we ensure you have the confidence and knowledge to progress independently while still reviewing your program as needed.

A Proven Recovery Plan for Post-Surgery & Injury

A typical recovery pathway might include:

  1. Early Entry (1-2 weeks post-surgery or injury) – Start moving safely with water-supported therapy to prevent muscle loss, improve circulation, and protect your healing tissues.
  2. 1:1 Guided Therapy (5-6 sessions) – Progress through customised treatments that improve mobility, increase strength, and ensure a smooth transition back to land-based therapy.
  3. Self-Help Phase (5-10 sessions) – Move towards independent exercise with continued therapist guidance to maintain and advance your recovery, helping you regain full function and independence.
